Target Information
MYLK (MLCK) is a serine/threonine kinase that phosphorylates myosin regulatory light chains to assist in contractile activity through myosin–actin interaction. It plays a key role in smooth muscle contraction, vascular permeability, and tissue edema formation. In the nervous system, MYLK regulates astrocytic process growth and neurotransmitter release at synapses. It is involved in fibroblast apoptosis signaling and is expressed in a wide range of adult and fetal tissues. The protein includes one fibronectin type III domain and nine immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains. MYLK expression is likely down-regulated by phosphorylation.
