Background
Protein kinase C (PKC) zeta is a member of the PKC family of serine/threonine kinases involved in various cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, and secretion. Unlike classical PKC isoenzymes, PKC zeta is calcium- and diacylglycerol-independent but requires phosphatidylserine. It is insensitive to typical PKC inhibitors and cannot be activated by phorbol ester. PKC zeta has only a single zinc finger module, distinguishing it from other PKC isoenzymes. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. (RefSeq, Jul 2008)
