Target Information

Bone Morphogenic Proteins (BMPs)는 TGF-beta superfamily에 속하며, 뼈와 연골 형성에 영향을 미칩니다 (Hogan 1996, Reddi 1998, Francis-West et al. 1999).
성숙한 BMP는 30–38 kDa 크기의 단백질로, TGF-beta와 유사한 cysteine knot 구조를 가집니다. Lovostatin은 bmp-2 유전자의 발현을 증가시켜 골형성을 촉진합니다 (Mundy et al. 1999).
BMP는 특정 골기질 단백질의 생성을 자극하고, 간질세포 및 파골세포의 증식을 조절합니다 (Macias et al. 1999, Lecanda et al. 1997). 또한 세포 증식, 분화, 형태형성 등 다양한 발달 과정에 관여합니다 (Hogan 1996, Dale and Wardle 1999).
BMP는 dorsal/ventral patterning에 중요한 역할을 하며, TGF-beta와 유사하게 type II receptor에 결합 후 type I receptor를 유도하여 Smad 신호전달 경로를 활성화합니다 (Massague 1994, Derynck 1997, Attisano 1993).
