Target Information
The activation of gene transcription is a multistep process triggered by factors recognizing transcriptional enhancer sites in DNA. These factors cooperate with co-activators to direct transcriptional initiation by the RNA polymerase II complex. The encoded protein is a subunit of the CRSP (cofactor required for SP1 activation) complex, which, along with TFIID, is essential for SP1-mediated activation. It also participates in other multisubunit complexes such as thyroid hormone receptor-associated proteins that facilitate TR function on DNA templates with initiation factors and cofactors. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
