Target Information
The calcium binding protein (CaBP) family shares much similarity to calmodulin. CaBP proteins can substitute for and augment the function of calmodulin. These proteins play a crucial role in calcium-mediated cellular signal transduction in the central nervous system.
CaBP1 and CaBP2 are expressed as multiple, alternatively spliced variants in brain and retina, while CaBP3, CaBP4, and CaBP5 are restricted to retinal rod and cone cells.
