Target Information
Beta actin is one of six actin isoforms identified in humans. It is a non-muscle cytoskeletal protein expressed in all human cell types and is essential for cell motility, structure, and integrity.
Beta and gamma actins coexist in most cell types as cytoskeletal components. Polymerization of globular actin (G-actin) forms filamentous actin (F-actin), a two-stranded helical structure.
Because beta actin is ubiquitously expressed, it is frequently used as a loading control in protein detection assays such as Western blotting.
Antibodies against beta actin are valuable tools for studying intracellular distribution and the dynamic aspects of the cytoskeleton.
