Target Information
The MAX gene encodes a member of the basic helix-loop-helix leucine zipper (bHLHZ) family of transcription factors. This protein can form homodimers and heterodimers with other family members such as Mad, Mxi1, and Myc. Myc is an oncoprotein involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. These dimers compete for the E-box DNA target site, enabling complex transcriptional regulation. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, though some full-length forms remain uncharacterized.
