Target Information
This protein belongs to the lipocalin family and serves as the specific carrier for retinol in the blood.
It delivers retinol from liver stores to peripheral tissues. In plasma, the RBP-retinol complex interacts with transthyretin, preventing its loss through kidney filtration.
Vitamin A deficiency blocks secretion of the binding protein post-translationally, resulting in defective delivery to epidermal cells.
