ZNF839 (also known as C14orf131) is an 811 amino acid protein containing one C2H2-type zinc finger.
The gene encoding ZNF839 localizes to chromosome 14, which contains ~700 genes and 106 million base pairs (≈3.5% of human DNA).
Four isoforms are expressed due to alternative splicing events.
Chromosome 14 also encodes:
- PSEN1 gene, associated with Alzheimer’s disease
- SERPINA1 gene, mutations of which cause alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency
- Immunoglobulin heavy chain locus, known to fuse with BCL3 (chromosome 19) in (14;19) translocations found in B cell malignancies
