Target Information
Peroxins (PEXs) are proteins essential for the assembly of functional peroxisomes. Peroxisome biogenesis disorders (PBDs) are autosomal recessive diseases characterized by multiple defects in peroxisome function. These disorders include at least 14 complementation groups, with variable phenotypes. All PBD patient cells exhibit defective import of one or more classes of peroxisomal matrix proteins into the organelle.
