ACVR2B는 TGF-beta 계열 수용체 ser/thr kinase의 type II 멤버로, activin 및 myostatin 신호 전달 경로에 관여합니다. Activin과 inhibin은 TGF-beta 초가족에 속하며, 9개의 공통 시스테인 잔기 중 7개의 보존된 아미노산 서열을 공유합니다. 현재까지 포유류에서 activin receptor IA, IIA, IB, IIB를 포함한 7개의 type I 및 5개의 type II activin 수용체가 클로닝되었습니다. 또한 activin receptor IIA의 두 가지 및 activin receptor IIB의 다섯 가지 splice variant가 보고되었습니다.
