Target Information
Ephrin receptors and their ligands (ephrins) mediate numerous developmental processes, particularly in the nervous system.
Ephrins are divided into two classes:
- Ephrin-A (EFNA): anchored to the membrane by a glycosylphosphatidylinositol linkage
- Ephrin-B (EFNB): transmembrane proteins
The Eph family of receptors is grouped based on extracellular domain sequence similarity and ligand affinity. Ephrin receptors form the largest subgroup of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs).
The EphB6 receptor encoded by this gene lacks kinase activity and binds to ephrin-B ligands.
