Target Information
The protein encoded by the MAP4 gene is a major non-neuronal microtubule-associated protein. It contains a domain similar to the microtubule-binding domains of neuronal MAP2 and MAPT/TAU proteins. MAP4 promotes microtubule assembly and counteracts destabilization during interphase. It interacts with Cyclin B to target CDC2 kinase to microtubules. Phosphorylation of MAP4 influences microtubule stability and cell cycle progression. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms exist for this gene.
