Target Information

The Diazepam Binding Inhibitor (DBI) gene encodes a protein regulated by hormones and involved in lipid metabolism. It displaces beta-carbolines and benzodiazepines that modulate signal transduction at type A GABA receptors in brain synapses.
This protein is conserved from yeast to mammals, with a highly conserved hydrophobic binding domain for medium- and long-chain acyl-CoA esters.
DBI mediates feedback regulation of pancreatic secretion and postprandial release of cholecystokinin, and plays a role in corticotropin-dependent adrenal steroidogenesis.
Three pseudogenes have been identified on chromosomes 6, 8, and 16. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described.
