Target Information

The FAT1 gene is an ortholog of the Drosophila fat gene, encoding a tumor suppressor essential for controlling cell proliferation during development. The gene product belongs to the cadherin superfamily, featuring 34 tandem cadherin-type repeats, five EGF-like repeats, and one laminin A-G domain. It is highly expressed in fetal epithelia and likely functions as an adhesion molecule and/or signaling receptor, playing roles in developmental processes and cell communication. Transcript variants from alternative splicing or promoter usage exist but are not fully described.
