Target Information
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by neuronal loss and senile plaques composed of aggregated amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptides derived from amyloid precursor protein (APP).
CALHM1 (Calcium Homeostasis Modulator 1) is a multipass transmembrane glycoprotein that regulates cytosolic Ca²⁺ concentration and Aβ levels. Some studies indicate an association between CALHM1 and AD risk, while others do not.
CALHM1 may modulate Ca²⁺-dependent proteolytic processing of APP by controlling cytosolic Ca²⁺ levels.
