Target Information
CD28 antigen is a 44 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric T-cell-specific surface glycoprotein. It belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily and is constitutively expressed on most peripheral blood T lymphocytes. CD28 provides the critical co-stimulatory signal by binding to CD80 and CD86 on antigen-presenting cells, preventing T-cell anergy and premature apoptosis.
In murine lymphoid organs, all CD4+ and CD8+ T cells express CD28. Expression is highest on immature thymocytes and decreases as cells mature. CD28 dysfunction has been associated with diseases such as mycosis fungoides and Sézary’s disease.
