Peroxiredoxin (Prx)는 세포 증식, 분화, 세포사와 관련된 퍼옥시다아제 계열의 단백질입니다. 약 50여 종의 아이소폼이 존재하며, 활성 부위 시스테인 잔기를 포함하고 티올 특이적 항산화 활성을 가집니다.
포유류 Prx는 6종의 멤버로 구성되어 있으며, 일반적인 2-Cys Prx, 비정형 2-Cys Prx, 1-Cys Prx로 구분됩니다. Prx VI는 1-Cys Prx에 속하며, 나머지 다섯 2-Cys Prx는 thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, NADPH를 이용하는 thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase(TPx) 활성을 가집니다.
포유류 Prx의 분자량은 약 20–30 kDa이며, 세포질(Prx I, II, VI), 미토콘드리아(Prx III), 소포체 및 분비계(Prx IV), 과산화소체 및 미토콘드리아 등 복합 분포(Prx V)에 존재합니다.
