Target Information
Antizyme inhibitor 2 (AzI2), also known as arginine decarboxylase (ADC), is an enzyme encoded by the AZIN2 gene in humans.
This protein belongs to the antizyme inhibitor family, which regulates cell growth and proliferation by maintaining polyamine homeostasis.
Antizyme inhibitors are homologs of ornithine decarboxylase (ODC), the key enzyme in polyamine biosynthesis, and function by binding to antizymes to prevent their inhibitory actions.
Antizyme inhibitor 2 is primarily expressed in the brain and testis, localized in the endoplasmic reticulum–Golgi intermediate compartment, and may also be expressed in ovaries, adrenal glands, pancreas, and mast cells.
It is suggested to play roles in cell growth, spermiogenesis, vesicular trafficking, and secretion.
