Target Information

Integrins are important extracellular matrix (ECM) receptor proteins located on cell surfaces. They are heterodimers composed of alpha and beta transmembrane glycoprotein subunits. About 22 different integrins (alpha/beta combinations) are found in nature.
Integrins are generally present in high concentrations at the cell surface, but they bind ligands with very low affinity, requiring clustering for effective ECM binding.
They interact with various ligands including laminin. Each integrin has a large N-terminal extracellular domain for ECM binding and a small C-terminal cytoplasmic domain for actin cytoskeleton interaction and signaling.
