Target Information
ABCC11 is a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. These proteins transport various molecules across cellular membranes.
The ABC gene family is divided into seven subfamilies (ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, White).
ABCC11, a member of the MRP subfamily, is involved in multidrug resistance and physiological processes involving bile acids, conjugated steroids, and cyclic nucleotides.
A SNP in this gene determines human earwax type. ABCC11 and ABCC12 are derived by duplication and localized to chromosome 16q12.1. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist.
