Target Information

The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
The 20S core includes four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two alpha and two beta rings).
The 19S regulator consists of a base (6 ATPase and 2 non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to 10 non-ATPase subunits).
Proteasomes degrade peptides via an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome variant processes class I MHC peptides.
The PSMF1 gene encodes a protein that inhibits proteasome activation by the 11S and 19S regulators.
Alternative transcript variants have been identified for this gene.
