Target Information

The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered structure composed of two complexes: a 20S core and a 19S regulator.
The 20S core consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two rings of seven α subunits and two rings of seven β subunits).
The 19S regulator includes a base (six ATPase subunits and two non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to ten non-ATPase subunits).
Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and function in ATP/ubiquitin-dependent peptide cleavage via a non-lysosomal pathway.
The immunoproteasome plays a key role in processing class I MHC peptides.
The PSMF1 gene encodes a protein that inhibits proteasome activation by the 11S and 19S regulators. Alternative transcript variants have been identified.
