Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the F-box protein family characterized by an approximately 40 amino acid motif, the F-box. F-box proteins are subunits of the ubiquitin protein ligase complex SCFs (SKP1-cullin-F-box), functioning in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination.
They are divided into three classes:
- Fbws (WD-40 domains)
- Fbls (leucine-rich repeats)
- Fbxs (various or no recognizable motifs)
The FBXO8 protein belongs to the Fbxs class and contains a C-terminal sequence similar to yeast Sec7p, a regulator of vesicular protein transport. It may interact with ADP-ribosylation factors (ARFs) and exhibit ARF-GEF (guanine nucleotide exchange factor) activity.
