Target Information
DNA-binding protein SATB2 binds to DNA at nuclear matrix or scaffold-associated regions and recognizes the sugar-phosphate structure of double-stranded DNA.
It functions as a transcription factor that controls nuclear gene expression by binding to matrix attachment regions (MARs) and inducing chromatin-loop remodeling.
SATB2 acts as a docking site for chromatin remodeling enzymes, recruiting corepressors (HDACs) or coactivators (HATs) to promoters and enhancers.
It plays a crucial role in the initiation of upper-layer neuron genetic programs and regulation of corticocortical connections in the developing cerebral cortex.
Mutations in SATB2 are associated with cleft palate isolated (CPI).
