Target Information
The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, which regulates programmed cell death. BAD promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, inhibiting their anti-apoptotic activity. Its proapoptotic function is controlled by phosphorylation through kinases such as AKT and MAPK, and by the phosphatase calcineurin. Alternative splicing generates two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
