Target Information
The Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS) family of proteins share similar domain structures and are involved in the transduction of signals from receptors on the cell surface to the actin cytoskeleton. These proteins are regulated by multiple stimuli and interact with various proteins. N-WASP associates with the small GTPase Cdc42 and the Arp2/3 cytoskeletal organizing complex, regulating actin filament formation. The WASL gene product, a homolog of WAS protein, is ubiquitously expressed with the highest levels in neural tissues and can induce formation of long actin microspikes through direct Cdc42 binding.
