Target Information

Transcriptional factor CTCF is a ubiquitously expressed 11-zinc finger domain-containing, DNA-binding nuclear phosphoprotein involved in multiple aspects of gene regulation, including transcriptional repression and activation, gene silencing, chromatin insulation, and imprinting control.
CTCF interacts with the CCCTC motif on DNA and can bind to HAT- and HDAC-containing complexes, influencing transcriptional activation or repression.
It plays roles in transactivation of the APPB gene, silencing of the c-myc gene, insulation of the human beta-globin and DMI myotonic dystrophy loci, and imprinting control of IGF2 and H19 regions.
Mutations in this gene have been associated with invasive breast cancers, prostate cancers, and Wilms’ tumors.
