Target Information

Class II PI3 kinases, including PIK3C2A, phosphorylate the 3 position of PI or PI4P. Although less studied than Class I PI3 kinases, Class II enzymes are involved in receptor-mediated processes such as insulin signaling, neuronal survival, and growth factor signaling.
PI3-kinases are key regulators in pathways affecting cell proliferation, transformation, survival, migration, and intracellular trafficking.
PIK3C2A contains a lipid kinase catalytic domain and a C-terminal C2 domain, typical of Class II PI3-kinases. The C2 domain mediates calcium-dependent phospholipid binding and protein-protein interactions.
This protein’s PI3-kinase activity is not inhibited by nanomolar levels of wortmannin and can be activated by insulin, suggesting a role in integrin-dependent signaling.
