Target Information
IL-6 is a cytokine involved in inflammation and B cell maturation. It acts as an endogenous pyrogen, inducing fever in autoimmune diseases or infections. IL-6 is expressed at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, secreted into serum, and activates transcriptional inflammatory responses via the interleukin 6 receptor alpha. Dysregulation of IL-6 is implicated in various inflammation-associated diseases such as diabetes mellitus, systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, Kaposi Sarcoma, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Elevated IL-6 levels have also been observed in viral infections, including COVID-19 (caused by SARS-CoV-2).
