Target Information

Lysophospholipid acyltransferases (LPLATs) catalyze the addition of fatty acyl moieties to the glycerol backbone of lysophospholipids. These enzymes play a crucial role in the synthesis of structural membrane components and are involved in cellular signaling responses to cytokines, growth factors, and other agonists.
Signaling through the interleukin 1 receptor in human mesangial and EL-4 cells activates lysophosphatidic acid acyltransferase (LPAAT), leading to the generation of unsaturated phosphatidic acid species essential for diacylglycerol and interleukin 1 signaling.
LPLATs also contribute to interleukin 2 synthesis in T cells, where activation via anti-CD3 stimulation increases incorporation of polyunsaturated fatty acids into phosphatidylcholine through lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase. Activation of this enzyme is essential for sustained activation and translocation of protein kinase C.
