Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene functions as both a phosphodiesterase and a phospholipase, catalyzing production of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) in extracellular fluids. LPA evokes growth factor-like responses such as stimulation of cell proliferation and chemotaxis. This gene product promotes tumor cell motility and has angiogenic properties, with expression upregulated in various carcinomas. The secreted gene product is processed into its biologically active form. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
