Target Information
This gene encodes an enzyme belonging to the diacylglycerol acyltransferase family.
It produces wax esters by esterifying long-chain (or wax) alcohols with acyl-CoA-derived fatty acids.
The enzyme functions in lipid metabolism in the skin, primarily in undifferentiated peripheral sebocytes.
It may also have acyl-CoA:retinol acyltransferase activity, catalyzing the synthesis of diacylglycerols and retinyl esters.
