Target Information

Sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-like lectins (SIGLECs) are a family of cell surface proteins belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. They mediate protein-carbohydrate interactions by selectively binding to sialic acid moieties on glycolipids and glycoproteins.
SIGLEC12 encodes a member of the SIGLEC3-like subfamily characterized by an extracellular V-set immunoglobulin-like domain followed by two C2-set domains and cytoplasmic tyrosine-based motifs (ITIM and SLAM-like). Upon tyrosine phosphorylation, the protein recruits SHP1 and SHP2 phosphatases and may function as an inhibitory receptor involved in negative regulation of macrophage signaling.
This gene is located on chromosome 19q13.4 in a cluster with other SIGLEC3-like genes. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described.
