Product Specific Information

The eBioY1/82A antibody reacts with CD68, a member of the sialomucin family closely related to lysosomal-associated membrane proteins (LAMPs) and scavenger receptors. CD68 is predominantly intracellular, located mainly in late endosomes, but also detectable on the surface of myeloid-derived cells such as monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, neutrophils, and basophils.

Functionally, CD68 may play a role in antigen processing or presentation and in protecting lysosomal membranes from hydrolytic enzymes. Expression has also been observed in activated T cells and B lymphocytes.

Staining with eBioY1/82A shows surface staining on B cells and a minor percentage of monocytes, while intracellular staining detects CD68 in about 50% of B cells and most monocytes.

Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Pre-titrated and validated for intracellular staining and flow cytometric analysis of normal human peripheral blood cells. Use at 5 µL (0.5 µg) per test in a final volume of 100 µL (cell count 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test).

Target Information

CD68 (Macrosialin) is a 110 kDa integral membrane glycoprotein mainly expressed in lysosomes of monocytes and macrophages, and to a lesser extent in dendritic cells and granulocytes. It is involved in phagocytosis and lysosomal metabolism, as well as in cell-cell and cell-pathogen interactions.

CD68 expression has been noted in tonsillar interdigitating reticulum cells, histiocytic lymphoma, histiocytosis, acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and granulocytic sarcoma. Elevated CD68 levels have also been found in CD34+ cells in various malignancies, including AML.
