S100 단백질은 calmodulin 및 troponin C와 같은 칼슘 결합 단백질 패밀리에 속합니다.
S100A는 알파와 베타 체인으로 구성되어 있으며, S100B는 두 개의 베타 체인으로 구성됩니다.
S100 단백질은 피부의 랑게르한스 세포 및 림프절의 파라코르텍스에 존재하는 간질 수지상 세포 등 항원 제시 세포에서도 발현됩니다.
