Target Information

HCN1 (Hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated channel 1) belongs to the HCN gene family, which contributes to spontaneous rhythmic activity in both heart and brain.
HCN1 channels are activated by hyperpolarization and regulated by cyclic nucleotides.
HCN1 and HCN2 play important roles in motor learning and neuronal integration by cerebellar Purkinje cells, shaping autonomous neuronal activity and network oscillation periodicity.
HCN1 expression is enriched in the cerebral cortex, hippocampus, cerebellum, and facial motor nucleus, while HCN2 is abundant in mamillary bodies, pontine nucleus, ventral cochlear nucleus, and nucleus of the trapezoid body.
These regional differences in HCN channel expression contribute to variation in neuronal pacemaker activity across brain systems.
