Target Information
The nuclear pore complex is a massive structure that spans the nuclear envelope, regulating macromolecule transport between nucleus and cytoplasm. Nucleoporins, including NUP214, are key components of this complex.
NUP214 localizes to the cytoplasmic face of the nuclear pore complex and is essential for proper cell cycle progression and nucleocytoplasmic transport.
The 3′ portion of the NUP214 gene can form a fusion gene with DEK on chromosome 6 in a t(6;9) translocation associated with acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome.
Alternative splicing generates multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
