Target Information
BCL-2 is a key regulator of apoptosis that functions to either inhibit or promote cell death.
Members of the BCL-2 family can form dimers to modulate apoptosis. For example, Bag1 forms a heterodimer with BCL-2 to enhance its anti-apoptotic effect, while Bax and Bak promote cytochrome c release from mitochondria, initiating apoptosis.
Overexpression or translocation of BCL-2 is associated with follicular lymphoma and other cancers such as B-cell lymphoma and prostate cancer. Two transcript variants of BCL-2 differ at their C-terminal ends due to alternative splicing.
