Product Specific Information
This GA5 monoclonal antibody reacts with human, mouse, rat, chicken, rabbit, and pig glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP). GFAP is a 49-kDa type III intermediate filament protein expressed in neural tissues and distinguishes astrocytes from other glial cells. Three splice variants exist, with alpha-GFAP being predominant. GFAP can co-assemble with vimentin and nestin but does not require these associations for assembly. Mutations in GFAP cause Alexander disease and overexpression is observed in certain glial-derived tumors.
Applications Reported:
Used for intracellular staining (Flow Cytometry), immunohistochemistry (frozen and paraffin-embedded tissue), and immunocytochemistry.
Applications Tested:
Validated in IHC on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded human tissue using low pH antigen retrieval; optimal performance ≤10 µg/mL. Titration recommended.
Fluorophore Information:
eFluor® 660 replaces Alexa Fluor® 647, emits at 659 nm, excited by red laser (633 nm).
Excitation: 633–647 nm; Emission: 668 nm; Laser: Red Laser.
Filtered post-manufacturing (0.2 µm).
Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein) is a class III intermediate filament protein expressed in astrocytes, satellite cells, and non-myelinating Schwann cells. It serves as a key astrocytic marker and is highly expressed in astrocyte-derived brain tumors. GFAP is also found in lens epithelium, Kupffer cells, and salivary gland tumors. Mutations in GFAP cause Alexander disease. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing.
