The Golgi complex (Golgi apparatus) is a cellular organelle found in eukaryotic cells. It is responsible for sorting, modifying, and packaging proteins and lipids synthesized in the endoplasmic reticulum for transport to their final destination within the cell or for secretion outside the cell.
Discovered by Camillo Golgi, an Italian physician and biologist, in the late 19th century.
