Target Information
COQ10B (Coenzyme Q10B) is a 247 amino acid mitochondrial protein encoded by the human COQ10B gene. It belongs to the COQ10 family and functions as an essential biological cofactor that increases brain mitochondrial concentration and provides neuroprotective effects.
Plasma COQ10B levels are decreased in patients with advanced chronic heart failure (CHF) and in hyperthyroid conditions, while elevated levels are observed in hypothyroid subjects, including subclinical cases. These variations suggest COQ10B as a potential biomarker for thyroid and metabolic status.
Thyroid hormones play a key role in modulating COQ10B levels, with thyroid deficiency exerting a predominant effect compared to adrenal deficiency.
