Target Information

Romosozumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody indicated for the treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk of fracture and in patients who have failed or are intolerant to other osteoporosis therapies. It prevents bone resorption and induces bone formation, though one study reported an increased risk of cardiac events. In comparative studies, romosozumab followed by alendronic acid showed superior outcomes compared to alendronic acid alone. It also demonstrated faster and greater increases in bone density than teriparatide. Romosozumab is marketed in the United States by Amgen under the brand name Evinity and was granted FDA approval on April 9, 2019.
