Target Information
The asialoglycoprotein receptor (ASGPR) is a transmembrane glycoprotein (42 kDa) that mediates binding, internalization, and degradation of extracellular glycoproteins with exposed terminal galactose residues.
It is expressed on hepatocyte surfaces in a polar manner, present on sinusoidal and lateral plasma membranes but not on the bile canalicular membrane.
Mammalian hepatic ASGPR mediates endocytosis and degradation of serum proteins lacking terminal sialic residues.
The rat ASGPR consists of three subunits: RHL-1, RHL-2, and RHL-3. The monoclonal antibody 8D7 recognizes a subunit-specific epitope of RHL-1 and is cross-reactive with human ASGPR.
