Target Information

Carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are zinc metalloenzymes that catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. They exhibit diversity in distribution and subcellular localization and participate in biological processes such as calcification, bone resorption, respiration, acid-base balance, and formation of body fluids including aqueous humor, saliva, gastric juice, and cerebrospinal fluid.
CA VB (Carbonate Dehydratase VB) is a mitochondrial isoform of CA V involved in metabolic processes. It is predominantly expressed in heart, pancreas, lung, placenta, kidney, and skeletal muscle. CA VB shows high homology with CA VA but is not expressed in the liver, indicating a distinct physiological role.
