Target Information
Vesicle-associated membrane protein 2 (VAMP2) is essential for cAMP-regulated exocytosis. VAMP (synaptobrevin) is part of the synaptic vesicle docking and fusion complex, playing a central role in neuroexocytosis.
Two isoforms, VAMP1 and VAMP2, are expressed in the nervous system and distributed differently among tissues.
- VAMP1: Predominantly in exocrine pancreas and kidney tubular cells.
- VAMP2: Found mainly in Langerhans islets and glomerular cells.
Both isoforms show patchy vesicular intracellular distribution in confocal microscopy, indicating their importance in cellular physiology.
