Target Information
This gene encodes a G protein-coupled receptor with selectivity for three chemokines: IP10 (interferon-γ-inducible 10 kDa protein), Mig (monokine induced by interferon-γ), and I-TAC (interferon-inducible T cell α-chemoattractant). These chemokines belong to the CXC family, characterized by a single amino acid separating the first two conserved cysteine residues.
Binding of these chemokines induces leukocyte trafficking responses such as integrin activation, cytoskeletal rearrangement, and chemotaxis. The receptor couples to Gi-type G proteins and mediates rapid, transient signaling events that are regulated by receptor phosphorylation and recycling. CXCR3 is highly expressed in effector/memory T cells and inflamed tissues, suggesting a role in immune cell recruitment during inflammation. It is also a potential therapeutic target for inflammatory disease modulation.
