Target Information
CXCR4 (Fusin, LESTR, HUMSTR) is a G-protein-coupled chemokine receptor with seven transmembrane domains. It functions as a co-receptor for HIV-1 and HIV-2 entry into CD4+ cells, mediating viral fusion. CXCR4 also serves as a receptor for CXCL12/SDF-1, increasing intracellular calcium and activating MAPK1/MAPK3 signaling. Additionally, it plays roles in hematopoiesis, cardiac development, gastrointestinal vascularization, and CNS neuron survival. CXCR4 binds bacterial LPS and mediates inflammatory responses, including TNF secretion by monocytes. Antibodies to CXCR4 block HIV-1 and HIV-2 infection of human cells.
