Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a type I transmembrane protein. It modulates bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) receptor function by acting as an accessory or coreceptor, influencing BMP binding. In mice, the AMN gene is expressed in the extraembryonic visceral endoderm layer during gastrulation, and mutations in this gene cause the amnionless phenotype. The encoded protein shares sequence similarity with short gastrulation (Sog) and procollagen IIA proteins in Drosophila.
