Target Information
CD28 antigen is a 44 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric T cell surface glycoprotein, belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is constitutively expressed on most peripheral blood T lymphocytes and acts as a critical costimulatory receptor by binding CD80 and CD86 on antigen-presenting cells. CD28 prevents T cells from entering an anergic state or undergoing premature apoptosis. In mice, CD28 is expressed on all CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in peripheral lymphoid organs and blood, with higher expression on immature thymocytes. CD28 dysfunction is associated with diseases such as mycosis fungoides and Sezary’s Disease.
